Section 5 Bottom Longitudinals, etc.
501. Construction
Bottom longitudinals are to be continuous through floors or to be attached to the floors so as to have sufficient fixing strength against bending and tension.
502. Spacing of Bottom Longitudinals
The standard spacing of bottom longitudinals is 500 mm .
503. Section Modulus of Bottom Longitudinals
The section modulus of bottom longitudinals is not to be less than obtained from the following for- mula:
Ě Ņ JJǾĴĊᾜᾨĪ Ncm Į Ń
where,
ᾨ : Spacing of bottom transverses (m ).
Ċ : Spacing of bottom longitudinals (m ).
ᾜ : Vertical distance from the bottom longitudinals to a point ᾘ Ñ LǾLĪĴ Ã (m ) above the base point of Á (m ). Where, however, the distance is less than 0.5 Á (m ), h is to be taken as
0.5 Á (m ).
504. Bottom Transverses supporting Bottom Longitudinals
Where longitudinal framing is adopted in the bottom construction, bottom transverses supporting bottom longitudinals are to be provided at a spacing not exceeding about 2.4 m . The bottom trans- verses are to be fitted at every web frame, and the scantlings are not to be less than specified in
401. and 402.
