Section 6 Local Compensation of Shell Plating


601. Hawse pipes and the plating below

The shell plating fitted with hawse pipes and the plating below is to be increased in thickness or to be doubled, and their longitudinal seams are to be protected against damages by anchors or cables.

In barges with transverse framing, sufficient consideration is to be paid to the prevention of buck- ling of the shell. And stiffeners of suitable scantlings spaced less than two times ho1d frame space are to be provided to the bottom shell for the midship part of barge. For barges less than 60 m in length, this stiffening may be suitably modified.image
