102. Scope
This Annex covers the drilling system which includes the following. However items may differ ac- cording to type of units and is not limited to the following.
1. Well control system

(2) Lower marine riser package (LMRP)
(3) Choke and kill system
(4) Diverter system
(5) Auxiliary well control system

5. Hoisting, lifting, rotating and pipe handling system

103. Equivalence and novel feature
1. Drilling systems which are not in compliance with this Annex may be acceptable provided that sat- isfactory service experience or a systematic analysis based on sound engineering principles demon- strate their overall safety and function.
2. Drilling systems which are not in compliance with this Annex may be acceptable provided that Systems are designed and constructed in accordance with recognized national standards or interna- tional standards.
3. The Society may consider the classification of systems based on or applying novel design principles or features, to which the Annex is not directly applicable, on the basis of experiments, calculations or other supporting information provided to the Society.
4. Risk evaluations may be applicable for the justification of alternative arrangements or novel features.
