Section 14 Welding
1401. General
The welding procedures employed during construction should be to a recognized international standard. Welders should be qualified in the welding processes and procedures utilized. The se- lection of welds for testing and the methods utilized should meet the requirements of the society.
1402. Welding structure
1. Welded joints of crossing parts at the ends of columns and bracings are, as a rule, to be of full-penetration type.
2. Size of fillet welds applied to respective internal structural members of columns and bracings is to be F1 specified in Pt 3, Ch 1, Table 3.1.4 of Rules for the Classification of Steel Ships.
3. For welded joints other than specified in Par 1 and 2, welding is to be in accordance with the re- quirements in Pt 3, Ch 1, Sec 5 of Rules for the Classification of Steel Ships.
4. Welding is to be carried out by the personnel qualified by the Society in accordance with the ap- proved welding specification.
1403. Joints of special design
In case of welded joints of special design, the Society may require tests to check the strength of the joints and any defects.
1404. Underwater welding
Welders to be engaged in underwater welding are to be those who have been accepted through the qualification test approved by the Society.
