Section 1 General
101. Application
1. Requirements for fire protection not specified in this chapter may comply with Pt 8 of the Rules for Classification of Steel Ships.
2. Expressly provided by the Administration of Registry, those yachts are to comply with the requirements.
102. Plans and documents
1. For a yacht requiring Classification Survey during Construction, three copies of the plans and one copy of documents are to be submitted and approved before the work is commenced.
(1) Fire protection plan
(2) Ventilation system
(3) Other plans and documents specified by the Society.
103. Definitions
1. "Fire-resisting divisions" are those divisions formed by bulkheads and decks which comply with the following.
(1) They are to be constructed of non-combustible or fire-restricting materials.
(2) They are to be suitably stiffened.
(3) They
are to be constructed so as to be capable of preventing the passage of smoke and flame
up to the end of the appropriate fire protection time.
(4) Where required, they are to maintain load-carrying capabilities up to the end of the appropriate fire protection time.
(5) wThilelynoatreritsoe hmaovree tthhearnma1l40p℃ropearbtoievse stuhceh otrhigaitnathl eteamvpeeraragteurete, mnpoerrawtuirlel tohne teme puenraetxuproe, seadt saindye one point, including any joint, rise more than 180℃ above the original temperature during the appropriate fire protection time.
(6) A test of a prototype bulkhead or deck in accordance with the Fire Test Procedures Code is to
be required to ensure that it meets the above requirements.
2. "Fire-restricting materials" are those materials Test Procedures Code.
which have properties complying with the Fire
3. "Non-combustible material" is a material which neither burns nor gives off flammable vapours in sufficient quantity for self-ignition when heated to approximately 750℃, this being determined in
accordance with the Fire Test Procedures Code.
4. "A standard fire test" is one in which specimens of the relevant bulkheads, decks structions are exposed in a test furnace by a specified test method in accordance Test Procedures Code.
or other con- with the Fire
5. Where the words "steel or other equivalent material" occur, "equivalent material" means any non- combustible material which, by itself or due to insulation provided, has structural and in- tegrity properties equivalent to steel at the end of the applicable exposure to the standard fire test (e.g., aluminium alloy with appropriate insulation).
6. "Low flame-spread" means that the surface thus described will adequately restrict the spread of flame, this being determined in accordance with the Fire Test Procedures Code.
7. "Smoke-tight" or "capable of preventing the passage of smoke" means that a division made of non- combustible or fire-restricting materials is capable of preventing the passage of smoke.
8. Auxiliary machinery spaces are spaces containing internal-combustion engines with power output up to and including 110 kW driving generators, sprinkler, drencher or fire pumps, bilge pumps, etc., oil filling stations, switchboards of aggregate capacity exceeding 800 kW , similar spaces and trunks to
such spaces.
9. Auxiliary machinery spaces having little or no fire risk are spaces such as refrigerating, stabilizing,
ventilation and air-conditioning machinery, switchboards ilar spaces and trunks to such spaces.
10. Control stations are those spaces in which the yacht's gency source of power and emergency switchboard are
of aggregate capacity 800 kW or less, sim-
radio or navigating equipment or the emer- located, or where the fire recording or fire
control equipment is centralized, or where other functions essential to the safe operation of
craft, such as propulsion control, public address, stabilization systems, etc., are located.
11. "Accommodation spaces" are all public spaces, cabins, corridors, stairways and similar spaces.
the
12. "class I yachts" are all yachts under 42 m and mono hull yachts up to 50 m with tonnage of not more than 250 gross tonnage.
13. "class II yachts" are yachts other class I yachts.
103. General requirements
1. The use of fuel with a flashpoint below 43℃ is not recommended. However, fuel with a lower flashpoint, but not lower than 35℃, may be used in gas turbines subject to compliance with the
requirements in 205.
