4. Where the yachts have undergone survey according to relevant governmental regulation and al- lowed to operate within costal area, the application of this Guidance may be dispensed with.
102. Classification
1. Yachts built and surveyed in accordance with this Guidance or with the alternatives equivalent to this Guidance will be assigned a class notation by the Society and registered in the Registration Master.
2. For the classification of yachts the requirements, not mentioned in this chapter, are to be in accord- ance with Pt 1 of Rules for the Classification of Steel Ships.
3. Yachts classed with the Society are, for continuation of the classification, to be subjected to the periodical and other surveys, and are to be maintained in good condition in accordance with the re- quirements of this Guidance.
103. Class notation
1. The class notations assigned to yachts classed with the Society are to be in accordance with Pt 1, Ch 1, Sec 2 of Rules for the Classification of Steel Ships except for the requirements spe- cially specified by this Guidance.

104. Definitions
The definitions and symbols of terms are as follows.
(1) Yacht means a yacht primarily used for cruising and leisure activities. It may be one of two categories as a "commercial yacht" or a "private yacht".
(A) Commercial yacht
Commercial yacht means a yacht which is engaged in trade, commerce, on charter or carry- ing passengers up to 12 persons for the purpose of benefit.
(B) Non-Commercial (Private yacht)
Private yacht means any yacht which at the time it is being used is:
(a) in the case of a
yacht wholly owned by an individual or individuals, used only for the
sport or pleasure of the owner or the immediate family or friends of the owner; or
(b) in the case of a yacht owned by a body corporate, used only for sport or pleasure and on which the persons on board are employees or officers of the body corporate, or their immediate family or friends; and
(c)
on a voyage or excursion which is one for which the owner does not receive money
for or in connection with operating the yacht or carrying any person, other than as a contribution to the direct expenses of the operation of the yacht incurred during the voyage or excursion; or
(d) any yacht wholly owned by or on behalf of a members' club formed for the purpose of sport or pleasure which, at the time it is being used, is used only for the sport or
pleasure of members of that club or their immediate family, and for the use of which any charges levied are paid into club funds and applied for the general use of the club;
(2) Large yacht
Large yacht means a yachts of 24 m or over in length which is being used for non-commercial and is complying with the followings.
(A) A yacht with a full load displacement of not more than (ton )

(4) Datum
Datum means a watertight deck or equivalent structure of a non-watertight deck covered by a weathertight structure of adequate strength to maintain the weathertight integrity and fitted with weathertight closing appliances.
(5) Design waterline
Design waterline means the waterline corresponding to the maximum operational weight of the yacht with no lift or propulsion machinery active.
(6) Lightweight ( )
Lightweight means the displacement of the yacht in tonnes without cargo, fuel, lubricating oil,
ballast water, fresh water and feed water in tanks, consumable stores, passengers and crew and
their effects.
(7) Oil fuel unit
Oil fuel unit includes any equipment for the preparation of oil fuel and delivery of oil fuel, heated or not, to boilers and main engines (including gas turbines) at a pressure of more than
0.18 N mm .
(8) Weather deck
Weather deck means a deck which is completely exposed to the weather from above and from at least two sides.
(9) Nominal sail area ( )
Nominal sail area means the nominal projected profile area of sails, as defined in KS V ISO 8666 (m )

Sailing craft means the craft for which the primary means of propulsion is by wind power, hav-
